Aaron and Carrie Wedding

Carrie and Aaron are both school teachers on the coast. He teaches in Florence, and she teaches in Salem. The wedding and reception were both held at one of my favorite venues, The Country Inn (Cravings) who catered the event as well. Wine was provided by Sylvan Ridge/Hinman Vinyards, featuring my favorite Pinot. They used the Eden Hall portion of the property, and so we had really great light the entire day. I love the grounds there, and the staff is always helpful and courteous. I have to say, the D.J., Willamette Valley D.J.s, did something so cool that I have not seen before...he recorded the bride and groom reciting their vows, then mixed them in with the first dance song. It was very sweet. Reed and Cross provided the beautiful flowers, and I loved the hydrangea centerpieces that were in every color I have ever seen. The bride's bouquet was full of multi-colored roses and various other flowers...click here to see it. There were so many little new-born babies and cute little toddlers at this wedding! It was as if they had brought a bus from the baby factory! Aaron and Carrie had better watch out, it may rub off on them sooner than they expect!

Chris and Gretchen at the UO Museum of Art

I have never photographed a wedding at The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon before this past weekend, but I am glad that I got the chance. What an incredible location for an intimate wedding celebration. The Gretchen and Chris have been together since high school, over 15 years. When they finally decided that it was time to make their relationship official, they knew they had to have it at the museum. Chris' grandfather was director of the museum for twenty years, and so it had become a special place in the lives of his family. I love it when the location of the wedding has a connection to the wedding, I think it makes the day that much more special.
I met the bride prior to the wedding at the Excelsior Inn, just down the street from campus. She was busily getting ready with her friends while the guests arrived and were seated. When the moment was right, we all walked over to the museum and right into the ceremony where about 80 guests were waiting in an exterior courtyard. Chris and Gretchen tied the knot in front of a metal modern art sculpture of two intertwined columns. The evening was topped off with diner by the University of Oregon Catering, a Sweet Life Patisserie cake, and with wine from Sylvan Ridge/Hinman Vineyards and a selection of beers from Widmere Brother's Brewing.

Lucy and Greg at The Marin Art and Garden Center

I was on vacation for the last week, so let me catch you up on what has been going on. I left on Thursday, the 30th to attend a cocktail party for The Bridal Connection Magazine at the Governor Hotel in Portland. They have been acquired by Tiger Oak Publications, the publisher of Seattle Bride. I will be the last local photographer to have work shown on the cover, with this fall's issue being my fourth cover for them since the summer of 2003 (they publish quarterly). We got home from the party at about 11 or so, with a plane to catch at 6:20 the next morning. I was up at about 4:45, and to the airport by 5:50. I was met at the airport by Greg, the groom for Saturday's wedding, and his friend Jeff from Cincinnati. We jumped in the car and headed to Marin, going right through the center of the city. We soon met up with the bride at the San Anselmo Inn and headed back to the city for a few pre-wedding portraits at the Palace of Fine Arts and Fisherman's wharf. We were met by Yoshi Morimoto from L.A. who drove up to be a guest photographer. It was great working with him, and if you are in Southern California, hire him for you wedding! We shot until early afternoon, then headed back across the bridge to get ready for the rehearsal diner at Insalatas in San Anselmo, who also catered the wedding the next day. Saturday we got started at the Marin Art and Garden Center (the site of the ceremony and reception) around 2 for family and wedding party photos, with the wedding at 4 (it needed to happen a little early because the venue closes at 10). It was a wonderful evening, with mild weather and beautiful light. We waited until the light was just right to take the Greg and Lucy away for a few minutes of photography under the largest magnolia tree I have ever seen. The evening was highlighted by the bride and groom sharing a cup cake rather than cutting a cake and dancing to the great jazz band that happened to have the bride's cousin, John, playing the saxophone.
